Modified girls soccer camp to be offered in Hamburg
A girls soccer camp for middle school students will be held Aug. 6, 8, 13 and 15 from 4:15-6 p.m. on the turf at Hamburg High Schoolís Howe Field. Hamburg middle school girls modified soccer coach Joel Maxson will oversee the camp. The cost is just $20 and is open to all girls entering sixth to eighth grade in the fall. The camp will focus on fundamental foot skills and agility training. Registration for Empire Cup lacrosse tourney underway
Registration is open for tryouts for the 2013 Empire Cup, which returns to Syracuse, from August 1-4. Each region has a staff of three coaches, with a wide variety of experience in the sport, ranging from current professional players to Hall of Fame coaches. Due to this yearís late announcement, players must first register online and then make either one of the tryouts dates or participate in the first practice. Team practices will be limited to just three maximum sessions prior to the games in August. Tryouts, dates, locations and coaching staffs will be announced shortly. The State of New York is divided by county into six regional territories: Adirondack, Central, Hudson Valley, Long Island, New York City and Western. Empire United to hold soccer camp July 15-18 in Hamburg
Empire United Soccer Academy, which is affiliated with U.S. Soccer, will run a camp July 15-18 from 9 to 12:30 p.m. at Hamburg High School. The staff will include former Hamburg High School varsity head coach Jim Harrigan, former Hamburg soccer standout Casey Derkacz and Lake Shore assistant varsity coach Scott MacLean. Dash-n-Splash event set for July 27 in Hamburg
The 23rd annual Dash-n-Splash 2.5-mile Family Fun Run is set for Saturday, July 27 starting 9 a.m. at the Frontier Middle School on Amsdell Road in the Town of Hamburg. The proceeds of the race will benefit the Town of Hamburg Recreation Foundation, an independent 501c-3 organization established last year to enable expansion or enhancement of recreation programs and facilities without raising taxes. There will also be an assisted racer group for any participant assisted by another ó to accommodate pushing strollers or pulling wagons, and a youth sports group for teams of racers from a common youth sports organization. Awards will be given to top finishers in each age and gender group and the Supervisorís Cup will be awarded to the overall male and female winner. The entry fee is $15 per runner pre-registration; $20 per runner on race day; $40 for a family of four living in the same residence (with $5 per additional family member); and $10 per person on a youth sports team. Baseball/Softball Showcase returns Aug. 17-18
The second annual Baseball/Softball Underclassmen Showcase will be held Aug. 17-18 at the North Collins school sports complex. This prestigious event is limited to those players who were first and second team and honorable mention divisional/league all-stars. This yearís format is ECIC All-Stars vs Msgr. Martin/Buffalo City/Private Schools All-Stars and the CCAC All-Stars vs Niagara Frontier/Niagara Orleans All-Stars. Players must be high school students scheduled to graduate in 2014 or later. Of the 39 participants from last yearís games, 32 are planning to play ball at the college level next year. Any coaches interested in getting involved and/or have players that would like to compete in this showcase should contact the individuals below as soon as possible to ensure a spot on the roster.
