SPRINGVILLE — Those who are interested in becoming lifeguards must obtain American Red Cross lifeguard certifications.
Springville Youth Incorporated will offer this course on April 13, 20 and 27, from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m., at the Springville High School pool.
There is a cost for this program. Participants must be at least 15 years old, by April 27.
To participate, interested parties must be able to pass prerequisite skills evaluations, including:
– A 300-yard swim, including the front crawl and breast stroke.
– Treading water for 2 minutes, using only their legs.
– A timed event: retrieval of a 10-pound brick at the bottom of a 10-foot pool.
These prerequisites will be held on the first day of the course. Bring a swimsuit and a towel for the skills evaluation and for every class.
A re-certification for lifeguarding and/or CPR/automated external defibrillator will be held on Thursday, May 23 from 4:30 – 7 p.m. at the high school pool. There is a cost for this course.
These classes are open to the public. To pass the course, individuals must attend all three sessions.
