Hamburg’s Anjali Silverheels has advanced to the Knights of Columbus free throw competition New York State finals to take place this weekend at the West Point Military Academy. She’ll compete against competition which includes other champions from upstate and the New York City-area.
According to the Knights of Columbus, there has only been one other Western New York competitor, a boy at the 13-and-under level, that has made it through to West Point for the state finals.
In January, the Union-Pleasant Elementary School student won the Knights of Columbus District free throw contest held in Hamburg at Post 2220 for the girls 10-and-under age group. She then advanced to the regional competition held in Kenmore, and again won in her age group.
The next step was advancing to the upstate finals on March 23 in Syracuse at the Bishop Ludden High School where she was again victorious in the U-10 age group, advancing her to the upcoming state competition.
