Sun outdoors writer wins award

Forrest Fisher
Forrest Fisher, the outdoors columnist for The Sun News, among other publications, has won a first place award in an annual contest of the Outdoor Writer’s Association of America. He took the top spot in the family Participation/Youth Outdoor Education Category for his piece on “Stamina Kids Enjoy Bison City ‘Teach-Me-To-Fish” that was posted on the Erie County Federation of Sportsmen communication website in April 2012.

According to Fisher, “This award helps to promote NYS-DEC outdoor programming, the Erie County Federation educational youth outreach programs and each of the individual member clubs that offer educational outreach fishing programs. There was nine categories and three winners in each category. My stories won via the Erie County Federation of Sportsmen website (special thanks to Dave Smyczynski for setting the website up the way he does... My stories included the summaries from the 2012 Teach-Me-To-Fish clinics we did....DEC Mike Todd is in a picture published for the Chestnut Ridge event summary. Pro Bass angler Scott Gauld is in the Bison City Stamina Kids story. Thanks to all of you for all that you do for the outdoors and educational outreach.”
