The Frontier girls swimming and diving team earned back-to-back victories last week to improve to 5-3 on the season. The Falcons defeated Hamburg, 52-50, in a thriller on Oct. 8 and earned a lopsided 114-64 victory over Sweet Home three days later.
Against Hamburg, the teams were tied, 46-46, heading into the final relay, setting up a winner-take-all scenario. The 400 freestyle relay team of Betsy Shepard, Paige Pasquarella, Alissa Leggett, and Emma Farrell just outtouched the Bulldogs by less than a second to win in dramatic fashion. Other first-place finishers for the Falcons were Tabytha Smith in the 50 free, Rebecca Steifler in diving, Betsy Shepard in the 100 fly and Emma Farrell in the 100 breaststroke. On Oct. 11, Frontier placed first and second in the opening relay and never looked back. Highlights included Mikaela Peterson and Alyssa Torres qualifying for ECIC’s in the 200 individual medley and Emma Farrell qualifying for sectionals in the 100 breaststroke.
With one meet remaining in the regular season, the Falcons have clinched a winning record and have nine ECIC qualifiers — eighth graders Pasquarella and Casey Aquiline, freshmen Farrell and Alissa Leggett, sophomores Shepard and Peterson and juniors Smith, Sarah Lapaglia and Leeza Leggett. Alissa and Leeza Leggett, Farrell, Shepard and Smith have all qualified for sectionals, as well.
