Beechwood Wayne earns Buffalo Raceway win

Beechwood Wayne came down the outside late and shocked the field in the $10,500 Open Pace at Buffalo Raceway on the Fairgrounds of Hamburg, winning in a time of 1:59 on Saturday (Feb. 8) night. Off at 17-to-1 odds, Beechwood Wayne (Ron Beback Jr.) managed to get past Little Santamonica at the wire and score a half-length decision, returning $37.80 to his backers.

The field’s lone mare Little Santamonica (Aaron Byron) was in control until the wire. Rockavellian (Billy Dobson) took the show spot. The victory was the third straight in 2014 for Beechwood Wayne — owned by Tessa Roland and Mark Jakubik. The horse has successfully stepped up in class the past three weeks.

Racing will continue on Wednesday and into the weekend. For more information including results, race replays, statistics and news, go to
