ATHLETES OF THE WEEK — Trevor Stark (above top) and Natalie Whitman of Hilbert were named AMCC athletes of the week.
Hilbert College basketball players Natalie Whitman and Trevor Stark were honored as the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference athletes of the week for the period ending Jan. 12.
Whitman averaged 18 points and 12.3 rebounds, posting double-doubles in all three conference games that week. She also led the team in field goal percentage (50 percent), in free throw percentage (18 of 22) and in minutes played (33.6).
The senior criminal justice major is the only Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference player to be ranked in the top five in both scoring average (15.2 points) and rebounding (9.8). She also finished with 24 points and 20 rebounds, in leading the Lady Hawks to their first AMCC win of the season, 58 – 47 against Penn State Behrend on Jan. 19.
Stark led the Hawks to three conference wins that week and came up big in the final contest. He averaged 22 points and 6.7 assists, while shooting 50 percent from the 3-point line, and was perfect at the foul line. He earned his first double-double of the season in points and assists as the Hawks captured a double-overtime win against La Roche College to remain in a tie for first place in the league standings, with Penn State Behrend.
The junior communications marketing major is ranked in the top five in assists, first overall; steals (third) and scoring (fifth) in the AMCC. After a loss to Penn State Behrend on Jan. 19, Hilbert is now 12 – 3 overall and fell out of first in the conference standings at 7 – 2.
