Smith helps D’Youville to AMCC win
Shannon Dougherty, a West Seneca West graduate, scored a game-high 14 points, and Alexis Smith of Hamburg added 12 points and 11 rebounds in D’Youville’s 63-56 win over Pitt-Bradford in Alleghany Mountain Collegiate Conference action on Jan. 4. In handing Pitt-Bradiford its first conference loss, D’Youville improved to 5-6 overall and 3-1 in conference. In D’Youville’s men’s basketball team’s 100-78 loss to Pitt-Bradford, Anthony Wiechec, a St. Francis High School graduate, scored 12 points.
Hilbert wins first game back from break
After 21 days off, the Hilbert College men's basketball team (7-2) used a 16-0 run in the second half to take control and coasted to a 74-60 non-conference win over Keystone College (5-4). Nick Nadeau shot 7-of-11 from the floor and earned his first career double/double scoring 16 points and grabbing 10 rebounds while Jalen Smith matched game-high scoring honors with 16 points, hitting 6-of-9 shots at the foul line.
Jerame Owens was credited with his fifth consecutive double/double (sixth for season, sixteenth for career) giving his team 12 points and 13 rebounds and Ryan Brewster chipped in a career-high 10 points. DaVaughn Thomas’ 13 points led three Giants who reached for double-figures.
