Jeremy Krencik golf tourney set for Aug. 24
The eighth annual Jeremy “Jer-Dog” Krencik Memorial Golf Tournament will take place Saturday, Aug. 24 at the 18-Mile Creek Golf Course (formerly Hamburg Golf Course) at 6374 Boston State Road in Hamburg beginning 3:30 p.m. with registration, lunch outside the clubhouse and a Chinese auction with many theme baskets available. The tournament will begin with a 5 p.m. shotgun start and feature nine holes of golf with a cart. The format is a four-person scramble and prizes will be awarded to winning contestants for the Longest Drive, Closest to the Pin and a Casino Hole. Following the tournament, there will be an award presentation and golfers are invited to O’Brien’s Pub, 8557 N. Main Street in Eden for pizza, wings and refreshments. Cost is $35 per golfer. The golf tournament is named for Jeremy Krencik, who was 14-years-old when he was killed in a tragic snowmobile accident in 2006. Proceeds of the tournament support the Town of Hamburg Department of Youth, Recreation and Senior Services’ Hook A Kid On Golf program, which teaches children of different ages and ability levels how to play the game of golf. Krencik was an active participant in this program and it was one of the highlights of his summer for several years, according to his mother, Sheryl Hage. Sponsorship and donation opportunities include $25 for a Tee or Green Sign, gift baskets for the drawings and more. Sponsors and donors should call John Wicka at 863-3756. For more information or to register for golf, call Luke Sullivan, recreation director, at 646-5145 by Aug. 16. Pre-registration is necessary for use of power carts.
