Skate Great, the largest basic skills provider in Western New York and one of the top 10 basic skills programs in the country, will host the fifth annual Janice Smith Memorial Basic Skills Competition on Saturday, March 23 at the Hamburg Town Arena.
It marks Skate Great’s largest competition to date with 80 registered competitors. Skaters will demonstrate a range of skills from those just learning the most basic techniques, to those who perform programs to music with the jumps and spins commonly associated with figure skating.
Skate Great offers Learn to Skate lessons at the Hamburg Town Arena throughout the winter season, and many of the skaters at the Saturday morning event are currently taking lessons in this program. Some skate for purely recreational purposes, others will transfer their basic skills into hockey programs, while still others are just beginning their journey as competitive figure skaters.
To learn more about Skate Great’s skating programs, call 980-3458, check out its website at skategreatinc.com, or stop by the Hamburg Town Arena on March 23 between 9 a.m. and noon.
