Hamburg won consecutive division games last week, by 1 – 0 scores. The Bulldogs beat the Iroquois team and Starpoint.
Senior Dan Meissner scored his fifth goal of the year from Sam Heeter, with 5 minutes to play in the game, to beat Iroquois.
Three days later, on Oct. 11, under the lights, junior Zach Hector scored his first of the year, in the 47th minute. He was assisted by Meissner and senior Zach Dake.
According to first-year head coach Tony Schiappa, Meissner crossed the ball to Dake, who put a strong shot on target, and Hector followed up on the rebound. Will Smith, Nick Szabala and Jordyn Bellitto helped to hold off the Starpoint attack.
“It was certainly progress as we lost our first game of the year at their place this year 4 – 3,” Schiappa said. “We probably had our best game of the year and played well, to possess the ball and break their defense down.”
Juniors Aric Huber and Shane Greene have played at central midfield, defending and connecting on passes up field. Goalkeeper Brandon Mecklenburg recorded both shutouts. Hamburg is currently 8 – 5 – 2 overall.
