Immaculata Academy and Lake Shore and Eden high schools will be represented when the Cheektowaga Lions Club host the 15th Annual High School Ladies Basketball Classic on March 23 at Cheektowaga High School on 3600 Union Road.
The two-game event will feature some of the top female high school basketball players from across Western New York. The first game will pit the Lioness and the Justinetts at 6 :30 p.m., which will be followed by the Lions taking on the Knights at 8:30 p.m.
Immaculata’s all-time leading scorer Taylor Heinold, who will play at Division II Daemen next year, will compete on the Lions team, against a Knights team which is to include Eden three-year varsity guard Emily Carias and Lake Shore guard Michaela Stepniak, who helped lead the Eagles to a 15-5 season.
The Lioness team, coached by Eden’s Marisa Fallacaro, will include Immaculata senior three-year varsity forward Kathryn Halloran, who will help her squad face the Justinettes and Lake Shore point guard Miranda Aikin.
To date, more than 600 student-athletes have participated in this event. Players are nominated by high school coaches and chosen to participate by a panel of school officials from the region.
At the conclussion of each game, a MVP will be selected and a scholarship will be presented in her name to a deserving student from each of their schools. Tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for students. Call 685-1422 for ticket information.
