Springville-GI varsity girls close with win, gear up for playoffs
Thursday February 23, 2012 | By:Matt Sargeant

Maryvale’s Rachel Stotz was the game’s leading scorer with 11 points. The duo of Brittany Adamczyk and Tia Woodarek, with 10 points each, accounted for enough points to keep up with the opposition’s offense, and Alex Wiede’s 8 tallies made up the difference. Wiede also had 9 rebounds and 4 blocks, both game-highs for either team.
Olivia Emerling, the latest addition to the school’s 1,000-point club, added 6 scores to make 1,013 points at the close of her high school career. She had 6 rebounds as well, equal to the rebound total of Woodarek. Alena Woodarek put up 7 points and added 4 steals and Tainne Dallas rounded out the team’s scoring with 2 points.
Emerling ends the season as the team’s leading point-scorer for the year with 279. Her 34 assists and 35 steals are also first in both categories, and her 88 rebounds are third behind Wiede’s 132 and Dallas’s total of 89. Wiede finished second in team scoring with 152 and first in blocks with 13, and Adamczyk was the final of the three triple-digit point scorers, racking up 123 points for the year. She had 23 assists, as well.
That final win gave Springville its first set of back-to-back wins in more than two weeks. Most of the girls’ wins came during a seven-game winning streak that began on Dec. 13 with a 53-33 decision versus St. Mary’s and ended in Pioneer on Jan. 24, a loss by a score of 62-41. Springville was 1-2 before the streak began and had gone 3-3 since it ended before closing out the regular season with the pair of wins.
The Lady Griffins will now move on to the playoffs, which were to be determined on Saturday, Feb. 18. While Springville’s opponent has yet to be released, the playoffs are scheduled to begin on Saturday, Feb. 25.
