On Sunday, the Pride faced a very good Harbor Creek, Pennsylvania team and lost in the finals - giving the Pride a taste of what was to come the following weekend.

On the weekend of July 31-Aug. 3, the Southtowns Pride competed in the Southtowns Slugfest wood bat Tournament.

The Pride opened the tournament with a loss to the Ironville Raiders out of the Rochester area in a very hard-fought game by both teams. Seeded team No. 2, the Pride, knowing their backs were to the wall, came up with a huge victory, beating the Mathewson McCarthy Bandits.

In the tournament’s semi final game, the Pride battled the Evans Eagles travel baseball team in a very enjoyable, well-played baseball game by both teams.

In that game, the Pride was down 5-0 after the first inning but battled back to win the game 6-5 in the eighth inning.

After a wet Saturday night, the championship game was moved to Lou Gehrig Youth Baseball in East Amherst where the Pride faced the Ironville Raiders in a rematch of the tournament’s first game.

This time, however, the Pride came out on top, defeating Ironville 3-1 in yet another tight, well-played game to win the tournament’s 14U division championship.
