Jr. Sabres to hold Alumni Reunion Night Feb. 17
The Buffalo Jr. Sabres organization is hosting its second annual Alumni Night on Sunday, Feb. 17 during its game against the Mississauga Chargers, beginning 7:30 p.m. in the Northtown Center at Amherst. All individuals who have ever played or coached for the franchise are welcome, including those who played or coached during the franchise’s Niagara Scenics and Buffalo Lightning eras. Alumni and their families will be admitted into the game free. Following the game, alumni are invited to Santora’s Pizza Pub & Grill on 1402 Millersport Highway in Amherst, for a reception where food and beverages will be served. Individuals interested in attending are asked to RSVP by contacting assistant general manager Pat Fisher at firstname.lastname@example.org. Registration being held for Lake Shore Little League
The next Lake Shore Little League registration will take place on Saturday Feb. 23 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the club house on Rogers Road. You may also mail your registration form with Baseball/softball and raffle payment to P.O. Box 451 Athol Springs N.Y. 14010.
Section VI seeking high school athletics officials
Section VI is seeking highly motivated individuals that would like to become certified sports officials to officiate contests for member schools in Western New York competing in athletics at the modified, junior varsity and varsity levels. This is a part-time opportunity through the Interscholastic Sports Officials Section VI, NYSPHSAA, Inc. Candidates must be at least 18-years-old, complete a certificate program, abide by NYSED qualifications/requirements and have knowledge and experience in the area of interest. Catholic State wrestling moved to Saturday at St. Francis
Due to inclement weather throughout the state last weekend, the CHSAA State Wrestling Championships were moved to Saturday, Feb. 16 at St. Francis High School on 4129 Lake Shore Road in Athol Springs. Wrestling begins at 9 a.m. with 6 p.m. finals. Twenty-three teams and 185 wrestlers from three leagues: NYCHSAA, NSCHSAA, MMHSAA, will participate. Local Monsignor Martin schools at the event will be St. Francis, St. Joe’s, St. Mary’s, GOW, Niagara Catholic, and Canisius. St. Francis, which won All-Catholics a few weeks back, is the reigning Class B Team Champions.
Red Dragon to celebrate junior black belt promotion
The Red Dragon School of Martial Arts will welcome in the Chinese New Year and celebrate its first junior black belt promotion since 2002 on Saturday, Feb. 16 with festivities beginning noon at its location in the McKinley Mall in Blasdell. Celebrate the Year of the Snake with Chinese music, dance, culture and Martial Arts demonstrations and watch Joseph Schaffer, Jr., as he attempts to promote to his junior black belt. This is the Red Dragon’s first junior black belt promotion since Sifu Robert Gott’s opening of the school. Joseph, a student at hamburg Middle School, is the son of Joseph and Lisa Schaffer. He joined the school in 2005, and now his father and two brothers, Jake and John, also belong to the Red Dragon. The promotion is to begin at 1:30 p.m. For more information, call 822-0222.
Co-ed snow softball tourney still looking for teams
The Hamburg Coed Softball League is hosting the fourth annual Hamburg Snow Softball Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 23. This tournament is a one-day/one-pitch tournament at Glen Meadows Park in the Village of Hamburg. Teams consist of at least five guys and five gals, and standard rules for Coed Softball are used. Hamburg Monarchs registration has begun
The Hamburg Monarchs Soccer Club will be conducting registration for the upcoming outdoor house league soccer season, which will run from May through July. Registration has begun online at www.hamburgsoccerclub.com. Age groups include 4-and-under, 6-and-under, 8-and-under, 10-and- under, 13-and-under and 16-and-under. Players must be at least 4-years-old on or before Aug. 1, 2013. The cost is $85 per player and $75 per player for 4-and-under participants. Fee includes uniform, insurance, two-and-a-half months of training and games two days per week (one day for 4-and-under teams). All training/games are to be held at the Nike Base on 2800 Lakeview Rd. in Hamburg. No prior soccer experience is required. Space on a team can only be reserved once the full payment is received. A late fee of $15 will be included in the price for anyone registering after April 1.
WNY PGA Junior Tour holds opens registration
Registration for the Western New York PGA Junior Tour will begin on Monday, Jan. 14. The tour provides young golfers ages 10 to 18 a place to play competitively while enjoying the game and learning valuable life lessons. The WNYPGA Junior tour runs over 20 events in the Buffalo, Rochester and Northwest Pennsylvania regions from late April to mid-August. The tour consists of five divisions based on gender and age. The divisions are Boys 9 Hole (Ages 10-12), Boys 13-15, Boys 16-18, Girls 9 Hole (Ages 10-12), and Girls 18 Hole. On the WNYPGA Junior Tour there are two types of memberships — full and part time. Full time membership allows you to play in up to 10 events and a part time membership allows you to play in up to five events. Hamburg Jr. Baseball/Softball registration open
The Hamburg Junior Baseball and Softball League is currently registering boys and girls for its 60th season of play. Registration can be completed from Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. until Saturday, March 2 at the Hamburg Memorial Youth Center on 200 Prospect Ave. On March 2, registration will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Leagues offered for boys start with T-Ball for ages 5 and 6 up to ages 15 and 16 Baseball and for girls, its also starts with T-Ball and extends to Seniors ages 17-23. Fees for participation range from $60 to $90. Ages for boys are as of April 30, 2013 and for girls, Jan. 1, 2013.
