Dash-n-Splash event set for July 27 in Hamburg
The 23rd annual Dash-n-Splash 2.5-mile Family Fun Run is set for Saturday, July 27 starting 9 a.m. at the Frontier Middle School on Amsdell Road in the Town of Hamburg. The proceeds of the race this year will benefit the Town of Hamburg Recreation Foundation, an independent 501c-3 organization established last year to enable it to expand or enhance recreation programs and facilities without raising taxes. The race will be broken down by age and gender groups. There will also be an Assisted Racer Group for any participant assisted by another person, to accommodate pushing strollers or pulling wagons, and a Youth Sports Group for teams of racers from a common youth sports organization. Awards will be given to top finishers and the Supervisor’s Cup will be awarded to the Overall Male and Female winner. The entry fee is $15 per runner pre-registration; $20 per runner on race day; $40 for a family of four living in the same residence, with $5 per additional family member after four; and $10 per person on a youth sports team. IA’s Moll, Lake Shore’s Brueckl to play sports in college
Immaculata’s Rachel Moll will play women’s volleyball at Division I Hartford, as announced recently by her high school coach, Kyle Shanley. Also planning to compete at the collegiate level is Lake Shore’s Clark Brueckl, who will play basketball at Alfred University in the Empire 8 Conference.
Registration has begun for Eden Mizuno volleyball camps
The Eden Mizuno Volleyball Instructional Camps are open for registration with sessions beginning July 13 at Eden Junior/Senior High School on 3150 Schoolview Road in Eden. Certain sessions will be devoted to specialized skills such as setter/middle hitter training, as well as play sets and back row attack for grades 7-12. Elite performance camps also include intense hitters clinic, defensive camp, daily setter training and instruction on advanced offense and defensive technique and strategies. There is also a boys and girls youth camp offering. The sessions will be run by three of the area’s top coaches, Stephen Pierce of Eden girls volleyball and Niagara Frontier Volleyball Club, Robert Pierce of Eden boys volleyball and a two-time All-American at Penn State and Tom Weislo, who runs Monsignor Martin power Canisius and was formerly a US junior national team coach.
Buffalo raceway offers new app
Buffalo Raceway announced that as part of the Erie County Fair mobile application there is a dedicated section to all the harness racing information of the Hamburg Oval. Horsemen and bettors can access through their iPhone or Android smartphone the racing schedule, entries, results, simulcast schedule and other features. The app can be downloaded for free from the Google Play or App Stores, by searching Buffalo Raceway or Erie County Fair. The 71st year of racing at Buffalo Raceway continues with racing through July 21 on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday nights. Sunday afternoons began June 2. In addition to live racing, simulcast wagering from across North America is available Wednesday through Sunday.
Hamburg Soccer Day with FC Buffalo on June 30
FC Buffalo of the National Premier Soccer League will be hosting a “Hamburg Soccer Day” in conjunction with their 1 p.m. home match against the Erie Admirals on Sunday, June 30 at Buffalo’s historic All High Stadium. All players in uniform will be admitted for only $1 while anyone wearing a Hamburg town or club logo will be admitted for only $3. Regular admission is $5. The Hamburg Monarchs 12-and-under boys black team will participate in pre-game introductions and a halftime exhibition against Akron. Currently, FC Buffalo is tied atop the NPSL table in first place with Detroit. All High Stadium is located at 2885 Main Street in Buffalo behind Bennett High School. The 5,800 seat facility boasts covered seating for nearly 4,500 patrons to provide shade or shelter from the elements. Coed Beach Volleyball Leagues forming at Woodlawn Beach
Leagues are being formed for adult co-ed beach volleyball at Woodlawn Beach State Park through the Town of Hamburg Recreation Office in conjunction with Game On! Sports, Inc. Openings remain for Monday and Wednesday night play, with the first games of the evening to begin at 6:15 p.m. Play is slated to begin the week of June 24. Joe Goungo, president of Game On! Sports, Inc., based in Buffalo, said additional play could take place on other evenings if interest warrants it. Players of all skill levels are welcome with focus on the recreational and intermediate level of volleyball player. To join a league, participants must be ages 18-and-over. Teams of six must include a minimum of two women.
