Despite only its second loss of the season, 5-1 to Orchard Park on Monday, Eden has secured its return to the 2013 American Legion Baseball District 8 playoffs. Also earning bids as the final week of the regular season approaches are West Seneca and Orchard Park in the South Division; along with McKeever in the North.
The final week of regular season action will determine the other four of the eight qualifiers from the district. Four teams from each division get in to the playoffs for a chance at the district championship won last year by Jurek Post. This year’s champ will advance to the state tournament July 31-Aug. 4 in Utica for a shot to move on to the Mid-Atlantic regional tournament in New Jersey the following week.

Eden, last year’s South Division champion and district runner-up, sits in second behind West Seneca at 12-2-1. In other South Division action, Jaworski’s, with players from Frontier, Hamburg and Lake Shore, ended a lengthy losing streak with a 13-3 win over local rival Hamburg Post 527, which features mostly players from St. Francis and Frontier. Jaworski’s (5-9-1) is in fifth place in the South.
