Fall Start Smart sports programs for ages 3-5
The Town of Hamburg Department of Youth, Recreation and Senior Services is accepting registration for several of its Start Smart programs that serve as an introduction to sports for children ages 3 to 5. Programs offered include Start Smart Multi-Sport, Start Smart Football and Start Smart Basketball (beginning Nov. 7 on Thursday evenings). All programs take place from 6 to 7 p.m. Start Smart programs are limited to a maximum of 20 children and require an adult to participate with the child at each class. NCAA informational night Oct. 9 at Hamburg
The Hamburg High School LMC and school’s athletic department will host an informational session for NCAA eligibility standards on Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 7 p.m. This free event is open to all local students interested in participating in athletics after high school and their parents. Representatives from local colleges will discuss academic eligibility and standards, as well as NCAA Clearinghouse information. Skate programs to begin season at Hamburg Arena
The Town of Hamburg Ice Arena has opened its fall-winter season and the Recreation Department is accepting registration for its Skate Great Learn-to-Skate and Beginner Hockey programs held in three sessions starting Oct. 2, Dec. 4 and Feb. 12 for boys and girls ages 3 through adult. Register by mail, online or at the Town of Hamburg Recreation Office, 2982 Lakeview Road, Hamburg, NY 14075. The Town Arena is located nearby. Ice time is also available at the Town Arena through the town’s Skate & Shoot program for adults 18 and older and for youth ages 6-9, 10-13 and 14-17. Public Skate is scheduled Tuesdays through Fridays at 11 a.m.-12:50 p.m. and Friday from 8-9:50 p.m. (beginning Oct. 11) and Sunday from 2-3:50 p.m. (beginning Oct. 13). Also, ice time is available to rent at various times. Call 646-5145 for more information.
Swimming programs to be held at Frontier H.S.
The Town of Hamburg has announced four upcoming recreational, family and adaptive swimming programs at Frontier High School for Town of Hamburg residents. Classes begin in the first week of October and extend through the spring session, ending at the end of March. Family Swim, Open Recreational Swim and Lap Swim are geared toward youth and families, and Adaptive Swim is a recreational swimming program for individuals with physical and developmental disabilities. All sessions have certified lifeguards on duty and are free of charge with the exception of Adaptive Swim. For more information on these programs, call 646-5145.
