Trailing 3 – 2 late in the second period, the Cazenovia Chiefs Bantam travel hockey team erupted for five unanswered third period goals in a come-from-behind 7 – 3 victory against the visiting Wheatfield Blades on Jan. 14 at the Timothy J. Burvid Arena in South Buffalo. Five different players scored for the Chiefs to turn around some season long offensive woes.
Jonah Kozak found Jack McCarthy for a goal, but the Blades jumped out to a 3 – 1 lead. McCarthy scored short-handed off a Carl Rolston assist, then Tim Darling ripped a shot into the net, off passes from Alex Kimball and Evan Rabent to tie the game at 3 – 3.
McCarthy scored his third, off helpers from Rolston and Josh Kacalski to give the Chiefs their first lead of the night. Ryan Kasniak found a streaking Kozak, who carried the puck the length of the ice and scored. The line of Kacalski, Kozak and Kasniak accounted for five points. Rolston scored on a Kimball pass and Kacalski put an exclamation point on the win with a goal. The defense was energized, led by Derek Missel and Brandon Schott. Jared Lux picked up the win for Cazenovia between the pipes.
