Jess Evans of Hamburg swam on Cortland’s All-American 200 freestyle relay at the NCAA Championships, along with Sarah Culmo, M.K. Dugue and Michaela Auer.
Cortland senior Jessica Evans of Hamburg was part of the Cortland State women’s 200 freestyle relay that finished 12th at the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championship meet recently held in Shenandoah, Texas. The Cortland relay earned All-American honorable mention for their performance and their time of 1:35.09 set a new school and SUNY conference record. The Hamburg High School graduate was also part of three other Cortland relay teams.
At the 2013 State University of New York college Swimming and Diving Championships held last month in Buffalo at the ECC Flickinger Aquatic Center, the Cortland women finished second, behind only Geneseo in team scoring. Evans took second in the 100 butterfly, fourth in the 100 free and fifth in the 50 free. She was also part of four school record setting Cortland relays in the 200 freestyle, 200 medley, 400 freestyle and 800 freestyle. The 200 freestyle relay also took first place.
After swimming five seasons at Hamburg, including being a captain for her final two, Evans swam all four years at Cortland, earning school MVP honors as a sophomore and elected team captain the last two years. She was the SUNYAC champion in the 100 butterfly in 2011 and 2012 and holds the Cortland record in the 100 butterfly, along with being part of five school record relay teams (200,400 and 800 free and 200 and 400 medley).
