Pine Valley made it clean sweep of North Collins in the Class D semifinals as the softball team won 13-3 on May 29 less than a week after its eventual Section VI champion baseball team was victorious on the road.
Second-seeded North Collins, last year’s Class D softball finalist, walked 14 times but only could muster one hit and was unable to stop the offense of Pine Valley, which played a division up in CCAA III. North Collins (15-4) won CCAA Division IV for a second straight year. The Eagles baseball team, also the second seed and hosting the semifinal, fell 20-10 to Pine Valley, a team it had met the last five years in the Class D final.
In the softball contest, junior Beth Kibler was down to her last strike before connecting on a base hit off freshman pitcher Jessica Wilcox, who struck out 10. The Panthers scored two runs in the first, five in the second, one in the third, four in the fifth and one in the seventh while the Eagles scored all three of their runs in the first. Jessica Lawton, who is one of only two senior starters, was the losing hurler but ended a fine career.
