WEST VALLEY — A mistake in the league books, coupled with 1 point earned in its last outing, has the West Valley Central School boys bowling team hunting for a playoff spot.
After the error was corrected, the Wildcats were granted two more wins. A 1 – 3 match against Allegany-Limestone set the boys team at 14 – 14. West Valley played Allegany-Limestone on Jan. 18.
“For the boys team, it was a pretty close match, even though they came out of it winning one and losing three points,” said Coach Jackie Mumbach.
The boys pulled out the first game by 3 points, winning 798 – 795. The second game went the other way, as West Valley lost 842 – 841.
The final game was not as close, as Allegany-Limestone won by 142 points, earning it the extra point, for most pins.
Cole Stanbro bowled a 201 in the first game, followed by a 221, during the second, and closing with a 171, for 593 total pins in the series. Dylan Westfall’s high was 203 and he had 531 in the three games.
The girls also went 1 – 3 against Allegany-Limestone. “They tried hard and even had their team-high game, during this match, but it wasn’t to be,” Mumbach said. That team-high was the only game the girls pulled out, as they lost the other two, as well as total pins.
Jordan Seltzer had a 139-pin high, part of 377 pins, on the night. Aamina Haykal had high of 135 and a total of 366.
The girls fell to 4 – 24. Both teams were slated to play on Jan. 24, against Salamanca, before taking on Cattaraugus-Little Valley at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 26.
The following week will feature games for the girls on Jan. 29 and the boys on Jan. 30.
