St. Francis finished off a season of championships, winning the CHSAA State Division II at the state tournament it held Saturday (Feb. 16). After winning the Monsignor Martin regular season league title and MMAA All-Catholics, the Red Raiders earned their ninth Division II State Championship in the last 14 years.

Senior Sam Carroccia earned Division II Most Outstanding Wrestler after placing second in the 220-pound weight class. He helped St. Francis take fourth overall in the 21-team field, which also included teams from downstate and Long Island. The Red Raiders scored 152 points to lead all MMAA teams and trail only Chaminade (226), St. Anthony’s (219.5) and Monsignor Farrell (219).

Also for St. Francis, winning consolation matches and finishing third were sophomore Jake Braunscheidel at 170 and seniors Alex Misterman at 195 and Josh Fisher at 285. Sophomore Jim Canterbury took fourth at 160 and classmate Travis Bittner (113), freshman Matt Muffoletto (120) and senior Dylan Sager (182) each placed fifth. Mike Miller was sixth at 126.
