The ice rink at St. John Park is back up and is offering ice skating. Informal hockey games and free skate sessions for people of all ages take place during the weeknights from 6-8 p.m., and on weekends in the afternoon from 1:30-3:30 p.m., depending on the ice surface and weather conditions. An updated schedule is posted on the back door of the Ruth Bareham Building or call 532-4053. The cost is $2 per session with free skate rentals. A reminder that no one is allowed on the rink unless a Gowanda Recreation employee is on duty.
The Gowanda Recreation "Learn to Ski" program at Holiday Valley will host its annual pizza party Sunday, Feb. 2 as part of the Super Bowl celebration. The ski program is held each Sunday through Feb. 23. All registered students will be able to ski or snowboard each Sunday in March but must provide their own transportation.
The Monday night co-ed basketball program for students in grades 4-6 and the Wednesday night roller-skating program for students in grades K-6 will continue through the first week in March. Due to a high number of participants in the roller-skating program, the schedule had to be modified. Students in grades K-3 will now skate from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Students in grades 4-6 will skate from 6:30-7:30 p.m. each week. The cost to skate is $2 with free skate rentals.
