Four Springville-Griffith Institute athletes set personal records

SPRINGVILLE — Senior Lexi Lines headlined the Springville-Griffith Institute Griffins’ efforts, when the indoor track team competed at the Fredonia track meet on Jan.12, but two other Springville athletes also took some of the spotlight.
During the 55-hurdles competition, Lines came out first, among the Springville competitors, finishing in third place, overall, with a time of 9.65.
Joelle Adamczyk and Megan Stoddard both set personal records. Adamczyk finished in 10.62 and Stoddard had a time of 12.63. Tom Schweickert finished in 9.5, good for third place, as well.
In the 3,000, while McKenzie Maloy’s 12:03 was good for second place and Elle Russell’s 12:11.9 earned Russell fourth place, Jess Wojtkowiak took a 10:48.0, for first place. Her effort was not only a personal best, but also a school record. Another personal best was set in the 3,200, when Tyler Olrogg finished, in 11:26.
In the 1,000, Joe Cocina came in first, with a time of 2:52.4. Kalei Brautlacht got a fourth place finish, at 3:40.9, for the girls. Cocina later earned fourth place in the 1,600, after getting a time of 4:52.3.
In relay competitions, the team of Hanna Hebden, Brautlacht, Sam Peterson and Wojtkowiak took first place, in the 4-by-800, after finishing in 10:59.5.
The group of Maloy, Meghan Loop, Russell and Jess Hotchkiss came in third, in the same competition, with a time of 11:52.7. The boys were fourth in the 4-by-400, after Olrogg, Cocina, Dewitt and Schweickert compiled a time of 4:09.0.
In the high jump, Jacob Moroge reached 5 feet, for second place. Hebden came in fifth, in the 600, at 1:56.6.
The track team is off until Monday, Jan. 21, when Springville will be back in Fredonia for a 9 a.m. competition. The team will then head to Lancaster on Friday, Jan. 25, to compete at Lancaster High School at 5 p.m.
