Hamburg football to hold scrimmage, event
The Hamburg football program will be hosting a “Purple versus White” scrimmage with the varsity and junior varsity teams at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24 at Howe Field. After the scrimmage, the football alumni will host a reunion and party at Patchin Fire Hall on 8333 Boston State Road, before the town hall. Hamburg football supporters, as well as alumni, may attend. Tickets will be sold at the door and include food and beer. There will also be a 50/50, raffles and Hamburg football gear available.
Summer health/fitness camp for youth
The town of Hamburg Department of Youth, Recreation and Senior Services, in cooperation with BWI Health Promotions, is offering a four-day summer health and fitness camp for children ages 5 – 12, from Aug. 19 – 22 at the town’s new Hamburg Senior Community Center, located at 4540 Southwestern Blvd. The camp will be taught by professional health educators, exercise physiologists, fitness instructors and registered nurses/dietitians. The program, which is broken down to two age groups, Be Fit Kids ages 5 – 8 and Be Fit Tweens for ages 9 – 12, will run from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Monday – Thursday. Extended day options are available from 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. Children attending will participate in exercise classes, fitness games, dancing, nutrition lessons, food sampling, sports activities, Limbo Rock, team building, stretching, circuit training, orienteering, healthy puzzles, craft time, wellness education and fitness assessments. Hamburg basketball to hold youth clinic
The Hamburg boys basketball program will be holding a “Junior Dogs” fundamental basketball clinic for boys in third – sixth grades, in the Hamburg School District. The clinic will run for eight consecutive Saturdays beginning Sept. 21, from 10 – 11:30 a.m. for third and fourth graders and from 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. for fifth and sixth graders, at the Hamburg Wesleyan Church HUB. The cost of the clinic includes instruction from the Bulldog coaching staff, as well as the opportunity for the “Junior Dogs” to play games at halftime of all Hamburg home games, this season. Registration brochures may be picked up at the Hamburg High School HPER Office or at the village recreation department. The registration deadline is Sept. 14. Youth flag football league registration
The village of Hamburg Recreation Department is currently registering boys and girls for the 2013 NFL Flag Football League season in the ages 9 – 11 division (ages as of Sept. 1). Games will be held on Saturday mornings at Glen Meadows Park, beginning Sept. 7. This includes eight league games, practices and a reversible NFL jersey. Registration will be taken weekdays from 8 a.m. – noon and 1 – 4 p.m. at the Hamburg Memorial Youth Center, located at 200 Prospect Ave. The ages 6 – 8 division and 12 – 14 division are run through the town of Hamburg Recreation Department. For more information, call 646-5145. The flag football camp scheduled for the week of Aug. 12 – 16 has been canceled because the required number of participants was not reached.
