The Hamburg High School girls varsity swim team won two meets in a row last week, by defeating Lancaster 94 – 92 and Sweet Home 70 – 27. With the wins, the girls’ seasonal record improved to 4 – 2.
At Lancaster, Hamburg won two individual events, but kept pace and forced the meet to be decided in the final relay. The Bulldogs needed first and second to win the meet and, with relay performances by Liz Piotrowski, Alina Kisluk, Sarah Fenton and Alexa Dayka, the girls prevailed. Freshmen Dana Bender and Katie Griffin were the only individual winners. Bender won the 500 freestyle and Griffin took the 100 backstroke. Other efforts were turned in by Maggie King in the 100 and 200 free, Julia McKee in the 50 and 100 free, Carolyna McConeghy in the 100 breaststroke and Alina Kisluk in the 500 free.
In hosting Sweet Home, Bender was a double individual winner by taking the 100-freestyle and 100 breaststroke. King won the 100-fly and anchored both the winning 200-free and 400-free relays. McKee took the 50-free, while Griffin won the 100-back and Anna Wonch finished first in diving.
Other highlight performances were turned in by Piotrwski, McConeghy, Dayka, Lily Wright, Aubree Gross, Becky Robbins and Maggie O’Connell .
Hamburg traveled to Will East last week, before hosting Frontier on Oct. 8.
