Hamburg Bantam Hawks hockey team clinches first place

With their convincing 5-1 win over the Rochester Americans at Leisure Rinks on Saturday (Feb. 2), the Hamburg Hawks Bantam Major AA hockey team clinched first place in the Bantam Major Red B division. The Hawks are members of the Western New York Amateur Hockey League and play local teams as well as teams from Erie and Rochester.

Goals were scored by Zach Fischer, Paul Paolucci, John Kwiatkowski, Zach Kwilos and Matt Cerrillo. It was a total team effort with eight players getting assists. Sean Lenhard enjoyed a great game in net and along with goalie Shawn Schneider had the league leading goals against average of 1.83 (42 goals against) for the 23-game season. The team offense also generated a total of 96 goals. The team, which is coached by Tom Kwilos, will now be off to the playoffs and attempt to bring home a league championship.
