SPRINGVILLE — The Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office is now accepting applications for the licensing under the newly-adopted county law of regulating the transfer of secondhand articles. The law, which was adopted last July and amended in December, deals with businesses that purchase secondhand items directly from the public or from other businesses.
All businesses in Cattaraugus County using these types of sales and purchases are required, by law, to apply for the Cattaraugus County Dealer in Secondhand Articles License.
Businesses, applicants and license-holders are required to abide by all stipulations of the new regulation. Businesses located within the city of Olean are exempt from the new law, due to an existing Olean city ordinance that is similar in nature.
To find out if a business is required to obtain the transfer of secondhand articles license, or to receive an application or additional information, call Detective William Welling of the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office, at 983-2276.
