A ‘Magical’ performance
Fine artwork in various mediums created by Mt. Mercy art students, along with an exhibit of international Nativity scenes, were on display and enjoyed by guests before the concert performance.
This year, by special invitation, joining the Mt. Mercy Women’s Choir, Pure Magic Show Choir, and the Magic Belles Handbell Choir, were the Bishop Timon-St. Jude Band, directed by Joe Head, and Brendan’s Voyage, a remarkable choir from Ambrose Catholic Academy led by Director Lyn Rezabek.
The talented young men from Timon played “Jingle Bell Rock”, including guitar harmonies by Jim Gibson and Paul Hoeflich, Mel Torme’s “The Christmas Song” and a traditional Old English Medley of “I Saw Three Ships,” “We Three Kings” and “What Child Is This”, with solos by Charles Coughlin and John Caulfield.
The young singers of “Brendan’s Voyage” enchanted the full house audience with their enthusiastic renditions of “Jingle Bell Rock”, “Marshmallow World” and “Mary Did You Know”.
The Mt. Mercy Academy freshman chorus, under the direction of MMA Music Director Fred Kirisits, delighted attendees with exceptional versions of a Huron Indian Carol, “The Christmas Song,” and a medley from A Charlie Brown’s Christmas.
The MMA Woman’s Choir performed “Carol of the Bells,” “Go Tell It” and “Infant Holy, Infant Lowly,” a Polish carol featuring soloists Rachel Smith (vocal), Colleen Webster (flute) and Handchimes by Jessica Sawyer, Abigail Webster, Patricia Bundt, Jenna Bezilla, Molly Webster and Sarah Lopian.
The award winning Magic Belles Handbell Choir presented lovely interpretations of “Past Three O’Clock,” “Sing We Now of Christmas,” “Come All Ye Shepherds” and a Catalonian carol.
As the grand finale of the concert, Mt. Mercy Academy’s own “Pure Magic” Show Choir were well received as they entertained with song and dance routines to holiday favorites “Silver Bells”, featuring Nichole Siminski and Amelia Skagias, “There’s Always Tomorrow” beautifully vocalized by Marjorie Bishop, and a wonderful performance of “Joy to the World” (A Christmas Prayer) by Desiree Desiderio.
